Using the Cairngorm Ski Centre car park, we used the path to climb up on to the west side of the cairngorm plateau from the west.
The weather started out fine, but as soon as we gained significant elevation we were hit with strong gusts and relentless rain.
We had planned to tackle both Munros and several Tops, but due to conditions we decided to just head towards Ben Macdui the furthest away Munro and see if the weather shifted later.
Once on the plateau the walk over to Ben Macdui was relatively flat, the only tricky part was navigating the boulder field in the heavy mist but was aided with a series of marker cairns. The climb up to the summit was pretty easy considering this is the second highest Munro. We only stopped long enough to take a few pictures before heading back.
There was no let-up in the weather and at times the mist was getting worse, so decided not to attempt the Cairn Gorm and headed back the same route. Hopefully when we do tackle the Cairn Gorm we get some better weather and nice views, but our track record around Aviemore when it comes to weather is not great, fingers crossed.
