A Munro is a Scottish hill/peak that is at least 3000ft / 914.4m in height and has sufficient distance or separation from the surrounding peaks.
Sir Hugh Munro (1856 - 1919) originally compiled the now famous list of Munros, which has seen several revisions. As of 2012 there are 282 Munros on the list maintained by the Scottish Mountaineering Club (SMC).
